Running a CNC machine is one thing. Setting it up properly is another skill entirely.
This includes understanding coordinate systems, managing tool offsets, and selecting the right cutting tools for different materials. A machinist who can only operate a pre-set machine has limited value compared to someone who can set up jobs independently.
Employers specifically look for this during hiring. Certificates alone don’t prove you can handle setup work under real production pressure. Hands on experience does.
